Third Street Book Exchange began in 1987 when local mother, book lover, and entrepreneur Darilee Bednar purchased a used book store at 1513 3rd Street in downtown Marysville. At that location, the bookstore had flourished. In the early nineties she then purchased the Tim's Bike Shop building at 1615 3rd Street and transformed it into a sprawling treasure trove of new, used, and hard-to-find books. Darilee also cultivated a yearbook and genealogy library. Darilee's mission was to provide free genealogy resources. She spent countless hours on her websites and genealogy research for the community. She ran the bookstore for 30 years. It has become a fixture of the local community.
Darilee passed away in early 2017 after a long illness. Her family maintains the business in order to continue her legacy. Her personality still shines through in the artwork, wall hangings, and decorations.
Darilee was devoted to her family and always ran the book store as a family-centered space with grandchildren running about or sitting on her lap at the computer. She considered her customers and community members as part of her extended family. Although the store continues to evolve, grow, and develop, we remain committed to the ideals and values that Darilee had fostered and held dear. Please continue to come in and support our family-run, locally owned independent bookstore.
We are located in Snohomish County and contain two floor of used books!
3rd Street Book Exchange continues to be a family owned independent bookstore offering a sprawling treasure trove of new, used, and hard-to-find books. The second generation owner, Rachel Nanfito, continues to dream and follow in the original foot steps of her mother. When Rachel is not at the store, she is home spending time with her teenagers, her husband Jacob, and her dog Willie. Rachel's siblings, Erin and Virgina, and nieces and nephews lend a hand when to keep this bookstore moving forward. Rachel reads all different genres and is always willing to talk books.
We are in the process of giving the store a new look. We will be painting, organizing, and updating throughout the store. We provide updates of the progress on our Facebook page:
